Annika MacKenzie, 14, is a budding long-distance track star and Calgary Track and Field (CALTAF) athlete. She loves training, but has been hindered by a painful knee injury caused by her growth and active lifestyle.  She is still attending practices, but working more on core and hip strength, as further damage from impact sports could result in permanent deformities.  (Photo by Mikaela MacKenzie/SAIT Polytechnic)

Even though Armstrong is enrolled in the professional cooking program, the food and beverage service class sees students preparing the front of the house for diners. Armstrong decided to enter SAIT's cooking program after she became a teaching assistant for her cooking instructor in high school. She plans to pursue her baking apprenticeship and become a journeyman. She hopes to use the universality of her skill set to travel all over the world, working in a location for a few years before moving on and finding a new place to live. Even though Armstrong is enrolled in the professional cooking program, the food and beverage service class sees students preparing the front of the house for diners. Armstrong decided to enter SAIT’s cooking program after she became a teaching assistant for her cooking instructor in high school. She plans to pursue her baking apprenticeship and become a journeyman. She hopes to use the universality of her skill set to travel all over the world, working in a location for a few years before moving on and finding a new place to live.
